Easy to spot losers

India just crushed Srilanka to book a slot in the sem-finals.

One interesting stat came up on the screen when the Srilankan team dropped a couple of catches. Srilankan team had a catch efficiency of 61%.

Which means they drop 4 out of 10 catches. The commentators were justifying why Srilankans are struggling. Now they had a stat to support that.

Catches win matches after all!

Bad stats define bad teams. One can easily spot bad teams. Not difficult to justify underperformance.

Here comes the flipside; at 86% Pakistan has the highest catch efficiency in this World Cup. The average efficiency is at 83%. India stood at 81%.

Does that mean Pakistan is the best team? Not really.

Not easy to define the secret sauce of winning teams. You can’t rely on stats. There is something else at play. Intangibilities!

But the starting point towards becoming the best is easy to define; don’t miss the low-hanging fruits!

Don’t miss those catches!
